On September 24, 2026, CKS College Southmont Campus vibrantly celebrated tradition, family, and community during its Mid-Autumn Festival and Family Day Celebration. The event brought together administrators, faculty, parents, and students across the Montessori and International Baccalaureate (IB) programs for a morning filled with cultural performances and interactive family activities. The festivities commence with welcoming remarks delivered by the Vice President of CKS College Southmont Campus, Ms. Luzviminda Sim, who highlighted the core values of the occasion—unity, family togetherness, and cultural pride. She recognizes the parents to the moonlight that guides children at their darkest nights and quietest doubts; They signify as the true lanterns of the school. Following her address, learners from the Montessori Toddler through Kindergarten classes joined Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Middle Years Programme (MYP) students in a colorful Lantern Parade to showcase their handmade creations.
The celebration continued with a diverse showcase of student talents across grade levels. Montessori Toddlers performed a dance to “The Moon” (月亮), while PYP 1 students rendered the song The Moon and Little Rabbit(月亮和小兔子). Nursery students danced to “he Beautiful Mid-Autumn Festival (美丽的中秋节) and Mid-Autumn Moon is Round (中秋月儿圆). Pre-Kindergarten students sang classic classical verse selections “Mid-Autumn” (中秋) and Thoughts on a Quiet Night (静夜思). Musical performances continued with PYP Grade 2 singing Mid-Autumn Full Moon (中秋月圆) and delivering an energetic drum feature, complemented by a chorale storytelling presentation from Montessori Kindergarten. Demonstrating classical literary appreciation, PYP Grade 3 and MYP Grade 6 recited ancient moon poetry, including “ The Ancient Moon Song (古朗月行) and Watching the Moon on the 15th Night (十五夜望月)“ before the PYP Dance Club concluded the stage segment with a grand finale Chinese Fan Dance.
Following the stage performances, the second half of the program transitioned into interactive cultural activities that brought parents and children together in shared celebration. Families gathered for a 30- to 40-minute lantern painting session where each student received a paper lantern, brushes, and paints to design a custom keepsake alongside their parents. Once completed, the hand-painted lanterns were hung on display racks across the area to symbolically illuminate the celebration. The event concluded with the traditional Mid-Autumn Dice Game, where students and families rolled for tiered prizes—ranging from stationery sets and lunch bags to treats—fostering friendly competition, community bonding, and a festive atmosphere of shared luck and joy.
The event combined student performances, classical Chinese culture, and shared family activities, and it continued the campus tradition of celebrating its Chinese heritage together.
